| HBOS plc (was Halifax plc) and the Viruses
On 12 February 2001, we received an unexpected email with an attached
virus from the Office of the Chairman of the Halifax Group. As we
enforce proper anti-virus disciplines, we did not propagate this virus to
other users.

This is the Anna Kournikova virus that is propagated when
a recipient of it opens an attachment. Internet users should have
proper anti-virus protection in place and they should never open
attachments that they are not expecting.
As proof that this email came from the Office of the
Chairman, here is another email that related to documentation that I had
sent to the Chairman.

I am concerned that proper anti-virus disciplines do not
appear to have been enforced.
Despite me informing the Office of the Chairman, we were
sent a further virus from that office on 5 March 2001. This was the
more dangerous "I Love You" virus. See below:

We have now received an apology an apology for one
virus. I should add that the viruses did not come from the Halifax
Group email system, but from the private office of the Chairman of the
Halifax Group.
