Safer Neighbourhood Team/ Police

A New Sergeant

Sgt Neil Goodyear

On Monday 13th June 2011, a new sergeant took over the reigns at Hayling Island Safer Neighbourhoods Team.

Sergeant Neil Goodyear has over 14 years service as a Police Officer and more than five years as a sergeant. He has worked in a number of uniform roles in Gosport, Fareham, Waterlooville and Havant over his service, including response policing, custody sergeant duties, supervising the Professional Development Unit where new constables were tutored and leading the Waterlooville South Safer Neighbourhoods Team for over two years.

Sergeant Goodyear believes his greatest achievement was significantly reducing the crime levels in Waterlooville South and helping to reinvigorate the local Neighbourhood Watch Association. He gained a lot of satisfaction from overseeing the development of over 50 new officers while in charge of the Professional Development Unit (Havant and Winchester Districts) and gathered experience of managing the movement of staff and police premises during that time.

Neil has long awaited the opportunity to lead the Hayling Island Safer Neighbourhoods Team, having first expressed his interest in January 2008. He intends to continue the excellent community engagement that the team already does and to develop the efforts to reduce crime even further.

Police Station To Be Sold?

Sergeant Goodyear wishes to reassure the Hayling Island community that the team will not be leaving the island, even if the current police station is sold. The team will relocate to alternative premises, most likely sharing with another public service. This should make the team even more accessible by being based in a more central location.

Whilst this may take some time to achieve, the Chief Constable has stated that we will not withdraw from the community and we will not dispose of police stations until alternative accommodation has been agreed.

The team can be contacted directly at hayling.island.snt@hampshire.pnn.police.uk and the team will reply when we are next on duty.

Urgent calls for assistance will continue to be attended by officers from Havant Police Station - call 999 in an emergency.
